Words. . .words. . .words

That is how I really want to make my living. Through the writing of words. I make a fair living through my art, and have for a good number of years now. But the real passion, at least for me, is writing, which is strange in a way, considering I post so little of it. Of course, there's a reason for that: I don't want to put work that I'm one day hoping to sell on this, or any other site, for free. I'm just greedy that way. I guess in that way (at the very least), I'm an ass. So what else is new?
I put at least as many hours into my writing as I do the visual art that pays my bills, and many times that which I put into my photography. I'm much more exacting when it comes to the written word than I am visual images, as there is less room for error when dealing with agents and publishers than there are in my other artistic pursuits.
And what type of words do I like to write?
Scary ones.
I seem to have a knack for it, slaving over a hot keyboard into the wee hours, describing things that go Bump in the Night. Placed beside my commercial art work, it makes an interesting contrast, a 'Dr. Seuss Meets Stephen King' dichotomy that never fails to bring a smile to my face.
So, with hard work, diligence, and a bit of luck, I'll one day be the man to bring shivers down the spines of many, and be the one to blame for the need to leave the lights on. For me, this dream is more realistic than it is to some, for unlike other authors in the genre, I've been there. . .done that. I've lived through the real thing, unlike our friends King and Koontz. In fact, were I to write my life history, it would read like one of the Mr. King's more improbable plots.
To a shrewd agent, this should translate into the kind on excitement only large piles of money could produce, but the publishing world is a harsh and fickle mistress, and only time, and much hard work, will tell.
